The End Point

Blogging is a peculiar pastime. I, perhaps, don’t have that much to say that I want to record. The last time I posted anything was in November of 2008. It was the most recent failed offer on a house. Bona Street if I am not mistaken. There have been many such failures since – in total 20.

Gladly, there has been one success. On November 3rd of 2010, I finally closed on a house. Where is it? What is it like? So many questions. First a picture.

The one success of a two and a half year journey.

And here is a video of the house, inside and out:

It is located close to the middle of Oakland. It’s not near downtown and it’s not close to where I lived before. The houses in the street are well kept for the most part. The ethnic makeup is quite wide. The graph below shows the picture.

As a place to live it is quieter than my old apartment. It has its sources of noise – once in a while someone plays music so loud that it can be heard in the next street. There are also numerous dogs that bark at all hours – not constantly but often enough under most circumstances to be a nuisance. In light of the recent cuts in the police force, it is difficult getting it stopped. I am fortunate that the windows here are double pane. This reduces the noise to a level that is only mildly disturbing – a vast improvement over the old apartment.

There are many things to do. Lots of minor repairs, a garden to redesign and look after, so may things to change to make this my home – the bathroom, the kitchen, change floor coverings, paint the walls, add storage. I am beginning to think the list will be endless.
